H5N1 avian influenza was diagnosed in a turkey fattening coop in Kibbutz Tzora in the Mateh Yehuda Regional Council, following an unusual mortality of roosters at the age of 9.4 weeks. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has defined a quarantine zone 10 km from the infected coops, where poultry movement is restricted and strict biosecurity measures are required.

This is the 13th case of the current flu season in commercial poultry farms. Following the case, the Ministry of Agriculture is urging breeders of ornamental and backyard birds to keep their birds indoors to prevent infection from wild birds, which are a source of infection, especially during the migration season.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security emphasizes the need to purchase chicken meat and eggs only from regulated sources and to ensure that they are thoroughly cooked before consumption, in order to prevent health hazards.
